One of the most valuable words in the medical cannabis glossary, that all patients need to understand, is cannabinoid.
WHAT ARE CANNABINOIDS?
Step one in understanding medical cannabis terminology is knowing and understanding the term cannabinoid, arguably one of the most valuable words in the medical cannabis glossary. There are many more cannabinoids other than THC including CBD and CBG, which are all organic chemical compounds, and along with terpenes are the building blocks of the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids have medical value and have been successfully leveraged in the treatment of conditions such as cancer, seizures, and Parkinson’s disease along with symptoms ranging from inflammation to pain and nausea.
The cannabinoids in cannabis provide medical efficacy to humans by mimicking our own naturally occurring endocannabinoids, and bind to the same receptors which are positioned throughout our brains and bodies. The endocannabinoid system has the responsibility of managing many different body systems, including pain, memory, mood and appetite. The unique way in which the cannabinoids found in cannabis are able to interact with our bodies in the same fashion in which our bodies naturally function, makes it the most ideal medicine for us.
